A sunny Sunday in Saltcoats and Ardrossan
It was a lovely Sunday morning so I decided to take a trip to the seaside – nearby Saltcoats and Ardrossan. The car said 3°C but it was sunny and without a breath of wind so it didn’t feel like it. My trip to Saltcoats was also better than the previous time when the wind and rain drove me home again quickly.
Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston are known as “The three towns” because, as they’ve grown, they’ve merged into each other. The first pictures are of Saltcoats with its harbour, beach and promenade. The tower was built with its lido in 1932.

Then into Ardrossan where the ferry crosses to the Isle of Arran. I hope to be on that ferry come spring or summer next year. There were some gorgeous shots of Arran across the water with the snow-capped (or frosty-topped) mountains. Above Ardrossan is the ruins of the castle which give wonderful views across the town and towards Arran.
The highest point on Arran is 874 metres (Goat Fell) which, for an island just 20 miles long is impressive. To think that the highest point in the whole of Dartmoor is 621 metres and that is twenty miles or so away from the sea. I am looking forward to visiting Arran in the next year and seeing those heights up close.
So this was my first chance to really explore the area in beautiful weather. With my bus pass now arrived, and cool but dry weather predicted for a few more days, I plan to see more.
