First morning at my new home

Woke up today in my new home – actually in the guest room at my new home where I am sleeping until I get some furniture in. At the moment, I am using the kitchen as an office as it is the only room with surfaces although I have to work standing up. But various bits of furniture have been ordered from Amazon and I will be browsing the shops this week so it will start to look less like an empty warehouse soon.

The trip up was not as bad as I feared. Yes, it rained nearly all day on the Sunday but it was mostly light rain, only getting heavy around Manchester (who’d have thought!). Traffic was okay except going past Birmingham where we were down to 20-30mph. Stopped for the night in Morecambe after 7.5 hours of driving and 331 miles. Strolled along the prom to see Eric.

Monday saw the second leg from Morecambe to Kilwinning. Much better weather, hardly using the windscreen wipers which were probably knackered from the day before anyway. More interesting as well: past the Lake District with its soaring hills, over the border with its “Welcome to Scotland” sign, stopping at Gretna for a break, and finally reaching my new home at 2.10. A grand total of 511 miles and 11 hours 38 minutes driving. It will be a while before I do that again.

Met Janet in the building who manages it. Very friendly, very helpful. Then moving everything out of the car and soon all my worldly goods were splayed out on the bedroom floor as I tried to find things. Popped out for a quick look down the main street: milk from Tescos, two bulbs for the rooms.

Today, the morning after feels better. I am going to store things in the kitchen cupboards temporarily as I have little food for them and no other furniture for storage. That will make things look better. Radio with Classic FM, mug of tea, laptop on the kitchen worktop, changing addresses and writing this blog, Things will brighten up.

Now the weather forecast suggests a week of cool but dry weather with some sunshine –…

    The sea, the sea!

Today as I was visiting Morrisons (the other direction from the normal Irvine shops), I decided to pop into the nearby town of Saltcoats to get a glimpse of the sea and hear the gulls again (after two weeks). I didn’t stay long as it was a day of heavy showers but it will be…
